ZBRUSH

Creature Study

Inspired by a Takashi Murakami sculpture I encountered at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, I created this original creature using ZBrush for sculpting, Substance Painter for painting and texturing, and Redshift in Cinema 4D for the final render.

Creature study

This character was inspired by a visit to the Asian Art Museum's 2023 Takashi Murakami exhibition, Unfamiliar People – Swelling of Monsterized Human Ego. Murakami's imaginative monster sculptures, with their balance of whimsy, emotion, and surrealism, encouraged me to explore similar themes through my own original character design.

Created entirely in ZBrush, this sculpture became an exercise in translating inspiration into an original concept. I concentrated on silhouette, expressive facial features, and believable organic forms while pushing stylized proportions to create a creature with its own distinct personality. The project reflects both my admiration for Murakami's work and my passion for crafting memorable digital characters.
